DIY Wall Crate Storage

Hello Friends! With the upcoming colder weather slowly creeping in it is bound to bring snow into southeast Pennsylvania sooner or later. I am planning on sooner which is why I needed to come up with an area for the kiddos and adults in this house to keep their outdoor cold weather items in reach. I don’t about you but until I did the pictures for this post I had no idea where a matching pair of gloves were to be found. Our hats and scarves were in a box in the very top back part of the closet and when I went to reach for them, everything on the shelf fell!!!!!!!!!!!!! This makes me frustrated and I wanted to open a bottle of wine or say some choice words but instead I created an area for all of these things to go. Happy dance. Ready. Set. Go!

As part of their #SawDustandSnow Campaign Crate & Pallet challenged me to create something winter themed with their crates. What better to organize all of our family’s cold weather items in them. But not just any old way.

So here is where we come in from the garage and normally throw all of our wet snow things on the floor in this room. I HATE THIS!!!!! However there really is no other place for them

My idea was to take 4 tall wall crates and 1 large crate which were oh so lovingly send to my front door, but you can also buy these at The Home Depot and Walmart.

I painted them in a light turquoise blue. After the paint dried I sprayed a few coats of polyurethane (in an aerosol can) on them to protect them for water damage.

You can see the wall crates have predrilled areas for you to hang the crate on the wall.

I measured out and marked where I wanted my crates to hang and put them on the wall.

After I was happy with the placement of everything I couldn’t just be done.  I had to organize it even more like my crazy self always does. I bought this set of chalkboard signs and some chalk pens at my local craft store and I went to town with some handwritten words. (If you need help with the lettering just google search calligraphy and use that as a guide to freehand the letters.) That’s what I did!

So here they are all finished. I did a “miscellaneous” sign for things like umbrellas and ice scrapers.

I then glued them to the front of each crate.

Now we can easily find our hats, mittens and scarves and now there is a place for them go after we come in from outside.

Not only is this functional but it’s pretty. Two things which are a must when I am doing a project!
